Advent Day 8: Jesus the Anointed One

"Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler comes, there will be seven 'sevens', and sixty-two 'seven'.  It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble."
Daniel 9:25

The prophet Daniel has stated that The Anointed One is coming.  In my NIV Bible that name is capitalized so it must be important!  How do we know that Jesus is the Anointed One?  Well let's take a journey back to Exodus to understand what the term anointed means.   In Exodus 28:41, God has just given Moses all the instructions for how the priests are to serve God.  They will be anointed and consecrated so they will be set apart for the service of God.  The act of anointment sets those priests apart for service to God.

Acts 10:38 states " How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him."  God had set Jesus apart for His service.

As part of their service to God, the anointed priests offered sacrifices to God! (Hebrews 5:1-2).  What did Jesus ultimately do for us? Offer his body and life as a sacrifice for us!!! Wow isn't that an amazing connection.  The Old Testament is rich and full of those tiny phrases that point directly to Jesus.  That is my favorite part of studying the Old Testament and the New Testament in conjunction.

How does the fact that God set Jesus apart for His work change your aspect or outlook on your Faith in Jesus?  Are you growing closer to God this Christmas season?  Are you still itching to learn more about Jesus?  Please join me as I continue to study the names of Jesus.

With His Love,
A
